Agassiz
Corn Capital of BC — a quiet Fraser Valley gem beside Harrison Lake.
Agassiz is a small agricultural community tucked between the Fraser River and the mountains at the eastern end of the Fraser Valley. Known as the Corn Capital of BC, the area produces some of the finest sweet corn in the province, and roadside corn stands are a beloved summer tradition for travellers passing through on their way to Harrison Hot Springs. The town sits just minutes from Harrison Hot Springs, making it a natural base for exploring the region. The Fraser River here is wide and powerful, and the surrounding mountains rise dramatically from the valley floor. Seabird Island, home to the Seabird Island Band, sits in the Fraser River just north of town and is one of the most scenic spots in the valley. The Agassiz-Harrison Museum preserves the agricultural and pioneer history of the region, including exhibits on the Japanese-Canadian community that farmed the benchlands here before and after the Second World War — a significant and often overlooked chapter of BC history. The area is also known for excellent birdwatching, particularly during the fall when thousands of snow geese and other migratory birds stop in the Fraser Valley on their way south.
