EV Road Trip Tips for BC
Plan Your Charging Stops
Use the BC Hydro EV app or PlugShare to map charging stops before you leave. The Trans-Canada and Highway 97 corridors are well covered.
DC Fast Charge vs Level 2
DC Fast Chargers can add 100–200 km of range in 20–30 minutes. Level 2 chargers are slower (4–8 hours) but great overnight at a motel.
Mountain Driving Uses More Power
Elevation changes in BC can significantly affect your range. Plan for 20–30% more energy use on mountain routes like the Coquihalla.
Download the Apps
BC Hydro EV, ChargePoint, FLO, and Tesla apps all let you check availability, start sessions, and pay. Download them before your trip.
Charge at Your Motel
Many BC motels and hotels now offer Level 2 charging. Ask when booking — overnight charging is the most convenient option.
BC Power is 98% Clean
BC Hydro generates nearly all its electricity from hydropower, making EV driving in BC one of the lowest-carbon ways to travel in Canada.
Major Charging Networks in BC
These networks operate the majority of public EV chargers across British Columbia.
