Chase
Little Shuswap Lake — where the salmon run and the houseboats drift.
Chase sits at the western end of Little Shuswap Lake, a small town with a big natural setting. The Shuswap River flows through town on its way to join the Thompson, and the surrounding landscape of lake, forest, and rolling hills is quintessential BC Interior at its finest. The Adams River sockeye salmon run, one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in North America, takes place just east of Chase at Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park. Every four years the dominant run brings millions of bright red sockeye up the Adams River in a display that draws visitors from around the world. Even in non-dominant years the run is impressive, and the park is a beautiful place to walk the riverbanks and watch the salmon fight their way upstream through crystal-clear water. Chase is also a gateway to the broader Shuswap Lake system, with houseboating, fishing, and water sports available throughout the summer. The town has a welcoming small-town character, good services for travellers on the Trans-Canada Highway, and easy access to Salmon Arm and the rest of the Shuswap.
