Comox
Where the mountains meet the sea — a vibrant Comox Valley community with world-class skiing and stunning coastal scenery.
Comox is a town on the east coast of Vancouver Island at the heart of the Comox Valley, a region of extraordinary natural beauty where the Beaufort Mountains rise steeply from the sea and the Strait of Georgia stretches east toward the mainland. Together with the neighbouring city of Courtenay and the village of Cumberland, Comox forms a community of about 65,000 people that offers an exceptional quality of life and a remarkable range of outdoor activities. The Comox Valley is best known as the home of Mount Washington Alpine Resort, one of the top ski areas in BC and the largest on Vancouver Island. The mountain receives exceptional snowfall — often over 11 metres per season — and offers skiing and snowboarding from late November through April, with a vertical drop of 505 metres and terrain for all ability levels. In summer, the mountain transforms into a hiking and mountain biking destination with gondola access to the alpine. Comox Harbour is a beautiful working waterfront with a marina, seafood restaurants, and views of the Comox Glacier — a permanent icefield that dominates the skyline above the valley. The harbour is home to a significant fleet of recreational and commercial fishing boats, and the fishing in the surrounding waters is excellent for salmon, halibut, and rockfish. The Comox Valley has a thriving arts and culture scene, with the Sid Williams Theatre, the Comox Valley Art Gallery, and numerous studios and galleries. The local food scene is excellent, with a strong farm-to-table culture supported by the valley's productive agricultural land.
