Gold Bridge

Remote Chilcotin gold country — a tiny community at the end of the road with wilderness all around.

Gold Bridge is one of the most remote communities in southern BC, a tiny settlement in the Bridge River Valley of the Chilcotin region, accessible via a long and winding road through the mountains from Lillooet or Pemberton. It sits at the confluence of the Bridge and Hurley rivers, surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the Coast Mountains and the vast wilderness of the Chilcotin plateau. The area has a rich gold mining history. The Bridge River gold rush of the 1930s brought thousands of prospectors to this remote valley, and the Bralorne and Pioneer mines operated here for decades, producing significant quantities of gold. The Bralorne Pioneer Museum tells the story of this remarkable mining era, and the old mine workings and heritage buildings scattered through the valley are fascinating relics of a boom-and-bust past. The Tyax Wilderness Resort on Tyaughton Lake, just north of Gold Bridge, is one of the finest wilderness lodges in BC. The resort offers heli-skiing, heli-hiking, horseback riding, fishing, and a range of wilderness experiences in a setting of extraordinary beauty. The Spruce Lake Protected Area and the South Chilcotin Mountains Provincial Park, accessible from Gold Bridge, protect some of the finest wilderness terrain in the province. The drive to Gold Bridge — whether via the Hurley Forest Service Road from Pemberton or the paved road from Lillooet — is an adventure in itself, passing through spectacular mountain scenery and offering the kind of remote, off-the-beaten-path experience that is increasingly rare in BC.
