Maple Ridge

Where the Fraser Valley meets the mountains — outdoor adventure at the edge of Metro Vancouver.

Maple Ridge is a city on the north shore of the Fraser River in the eastern Fraser Valley, about 40 kilometres east of Vancouver. It occupies a dramatic position between the Fraser River floodplain and the steep slopes of the Golden Ears mountains, giving it a character that blends suburban Metro Vancouver with genuine wilderness access. Golden Ears Provincial Park, which begins at the northern edge of Maple Ridge, is one of the most visited provincial parks in BC. The park encompasses the rugged peaks of the Golden Ears massif and the Alouette River valley, with hiking trails ranging from easy lakeside walks to challenging multi-day routes to the alpine. Alouette Lake, within the park, is a beautiful mountain lake popular for swimming, boating, and camping. The Alouette River and the Fraser River both offer excellent fishing for salmon and steelhead, and the river corridors provide important wildlife habitat. The Kanaka Creek Regional Park protects a significant stretch of Kanaka Creek and its riparian forest, with trails that are excellent for birdwatching and nature walks. Maple Ridge has a strong equestrian culture, with numerous horse properties and riding facilities in the rural areas of the municipality. The community also has a vibrant arts scene centred on the ACT Arts Centre, which presents professional theatre, music, and visual arts programming year-round.
