Sicamous
The Houseboat Capital of Canada — where the Shuswap opens up and summer never ends.
Sicamous is the Houseboat Capital of Canada, a small town on the Trans-Canada Highway where Mara Lake meets the Shuswap River and the houseboat culture of the Shuswap reaches its peak. Every summer, hundreds of houseboats set out from Sicamous to explore the 1,000 kilometres of shoreline that make Shuswap Lake one of the finest houseboat destinations in the world. The town sits at a natural crossroads — the Trans-Canada passes through, and the Shuswap River connects Sicamous to the broader lake system. The marina is one of the busiest in the Interior, and the waterfront has a festive summer energy that is hard to find anywhere else in BC. Water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing are popular on the calm waters of Mara Lake. Beyond the water, Sicamous offers easy access to the Eagle Pass, the historic mountain pass through the Monashees that the CPR used to complete the transcontinental railway in 1885. The surrounding mountains offer hiking and snowmobiling, and the town is a natural stopping point for travellers between Kamloops and Revelstoke.
