Valemount

Where the Rockies, Cariboos, and Monashees meet — a wilderness town at the top of the world.

Valemount sits in the Rocky Mountain Trench at the northern end of the Robson Valley, surrounded by three mountain ranges — the Rockies to the east, the Cariboos to the west, and the Monashees to the southwest. It is a small town with a big mountain setting, and the surrounding wilderness is among the most spectacular in BC. Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at 3,954 metres, is visible from Valemount on clear days — a massive, cloud-wreathed pyramid that dominates the eastern horizon. Mount Robson Provincial Park, just east of town, offers world-class hiking including the Berg Lake Trail, one of the finest backcountry routes in Canada. Valemount is also a premier snowmobiling destination, with the surrounding mountains receiving enormous snowfalls and offering terrain for every ability level. In summer, the area offers excellent fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing, with moose, elk, grizzly bear, and mountain goat all commonly seen. The town is also a gateway to Jasper National Park, just over the Alberta border.
