Insider Tips

Book online in advance

Reservations open 3 months ahead. Summer sailings on the Tsawwassen–Swartz Bay route fill up fast — book as soon as your dates are set.

Arrive 30 min early

BC Ferries recommends arriving at least 30 minutes before sailing. In summer, 45–60 minutes is safer. Late arrivals forfeit their reservation.

Save with off-peak travel

Fares are lower on weekdays and shoulder season (Oct–May). Monday–Thursday sailings are typically the least busy.

Oversize vehicles need special booking

Vehicles over 25 ft (RVs, trailers, boats) must call BC Ferries directly to book — online booking has a size limit.

Walk-on is often faster

If you're heading to Victoria, consider taking transit to the terminal and walking on. Foot passengers board first and disembark first.

Check Current Conditions

Sailings can be delayed or cancelled due to weather, mechanical issues, or high demand. Check the BC Ferries app or website before you leave.
