Porteau Cove
Underwater park

Porteau Cove

A provincial marine park where BC Parks deliberately sank two ships and a barge to create an artificial reef — now one of the most accessible scuba diving and snorkelling sites in the province. The sunken vessels are encrusted with sea life and visible in the clear water just offshore. Above the surface, the cove offers dramatic views of Howe Sound's fjord walls and is a popular spot for camping, kayaking, and watching the bioluminescence on calm summer nights.

Tip: Non-divers can see the shallow reef clearly by snorkelling — the water is cold year-round so a wetsuit is essential. The campground books up fast; reserve well in advance for summer weekends.
